Winter trek in Morocco

When the high mountain passes of the Northern Atlas close in Autumn; we move south into low area, an area of variegated beauty, inhabited by tribes who have little contact with the outside world. The jebel is a contorted jumble of volcanic monoliths, gouged and chiselled to form stark canyons, mesas and plateaux. Dissected by verdant gorges like the Dades valley, the mountains are dotted with ruined Kasbahs and tiny oases, providing shelter for hardy Berbers and nomadic people.

PROS AND CONS:

No one should trek in the Atlas without conquering its greatest mountain. And the views from high-altitude circuit are breathtaking. You will also meet more fellow trekkers on this route which can add to the enjoyment though, for some, the presence of other trekkers might detract from the pleasure of the trek.
Toubkal is a harsh and unforgiving landscape which, trough beautiful, surprises those visitors who expect a relatively easy time and there are great changes in altitude and long, dry periods during which water is scarce.
